3 Ways to Dress for a Salsa Dance Workout

1. Choose Something Snug

Your salsa dance workout will involve a great deal of body movement. Pick clothing that will give and move with your body. Your workout attire should hug your body, so avoid any loose fitting type blouses or shirts. The workout attire for salsa dance classes needs to lean more toward traditional dance clothing rather than athletic workout gear.

2. Watch Your Body Work

Form fitting tank tops are great for both men and women to wear during salsa workouts. A crop top is another good selection for women. Women should wear spandex dance pants or a spandex cropped pant, since both will move with their bodies. Spandex jazz dance pants are another option, as long as they fit snugly. Women can also wear a spandex or form fitting dance skirt as long as the skirt shows the hips, abdominals and midriff area. The idea is to actually see the lines of the midriff in a mirror while learning the dance movements to make sure you're doing the movements correctly. If you're practice area has mirrors, get in position to watch the movement of your rib cage, hips, stomach and core area.

3. Pull on Your Dancing Shoes

Your practice shoes should be the same footwear you would put on for a performance or a night of dancing. Women beginners should start with a character dance shoe, similar to "Mary Janes" with a single strap and a stable heel for dancing. As they progress, they can wear high heels or dance shoes with elevated heels. Buy shoes specifically for salsa since they are constructed to endure many nights of hard dancing. Athletic sneakers, ballet flats, clog shoes aren't suitable for salsa workouts or dancing. Men should wear dress shoes or dance shoes for salsa workouts and dancing.
