It plagues your thighs, bottom, arms and stomach, and is very hard to reduce: cellulite. This condition occurs when collagen decreases and fat cells are more visible through the skin. The result is skin that is dimpled in appearance. Women experience cellulite more than men because they are genetically wired with more alpha receptors, which cause fat cells to produce fat.

Eat a Healthy Diet

People who eat a diet high in fat, carbohydrates and salt are more likely to experience cellulite, according to Medical News Today. Your diet not only reduces the amount of fat tissues in the body, it also helps your body to more evenly regulate hormones that can reduce the expression of fat cells, according to Scientific American. In addition to cutting out the bad parts of your diet, it's important to incorporate good parts, such as fiber. Increasing your fiber intake by eating fortified cereal, granola bars, oatmeal and melons has been linked with reduced incidence of cellulite, reports Medical News Today.

Don't Wear Tight Clothing

Your skin relies on proper circulation in order for the blood supply to reach your tissues and stay healthy in appearance. If you wear tight clothing, such as pantyhose or even underwear that is too tight, you may experience an increased incidence of cellulite, according to Medical News Today. Instead of underwear with tight elastic along the buttocks or around the thighs, wear underwear that is more loose around these areas, such as a thong.

Exercise

Exercising increases circulation as well as reduces the overall amount of fat cells in the body. Because cellulite occurs more predominantly in those who are sedentary or who sit or stand in the same position for extended periods of time, increasing your activity levels helps to reduce the overall occurrence of cellulite, according to Medical News Today.

Use a Cream

A number of cellulite treatment creams are available to rid the body of cellulite. Active ingredients include L-Carnitine, which moves fats into the cells' mitochondria, where they are then used as energy, according to Scientific American. Another active ingredient in cellulite creams is caffeine. When applied to the skin, caffeine helps to block fat production in the alpha receptors. Because alpha receptors are linked with an increased incidence of cellulite, application can reduce the overall appearance of cellulite, even if the effect is only temporary.
