Infant safety includes the use of a car seat during travel in vehicles. The Graco Infant Restraint/Carrier is a popular brand among parents and caregivers due to its affordable price, availability at numerous retailers, and the variety of colors, patterns and matching gear to fit individual style. The Graco Infant Restraint/Carrier may be purchased separately or in conjunction with travel systems that include strollers that accommodate the car seat.
Step 1
Choose placement for the security base and restraint inside the vehicle. The middle position of the back bench seat is preferred. The restraint will face the rear.
Step 2
Check the vehicle seat belt system that is in place. According to the Graco Infant Restraint/Carrier Owner's Manual, manually adjusted belts, automatic locking retractor lap belts and shoulder/lap belts with locking latch plates are safe to use with this car seat.
Step 3
Lift the infant restraint/carrier from the security base by squeezing the red lever and pulling up on the car seat's handle. The base of the car seat needs to be installed inside the vehicle without the restraint.
Step 4
Place the base in the vehicle facing the rear. Thread the shoulder and lap belts through the openings of the base. Do not twist the seat belts; they should lay flat against the base. Place the plastic tongue over the seat belts and secure. Push and pull on the base to check for stability. The security base should not slide backward, forward or sideways.
Step 5
Install the metal locking clip. Loop the lap/shoulder belts through the clip and place just above the buckle. This will secure the two belts together. Pull out any slack and tighten.
Step 6
Gather the restraint/carrier and place it in the security base facing the rear. Push down on the car seat until it locks into place. A clicking sound will signal caregivers that the restraint is locked in the base. The seat is ready for travel.
