5 Things You Need to Know About Fertility Pills

1. Multiply Like Rabbits, or Not

One of the most wide spread thoughts about taking fertility medication is the possibility of having multiple babies. Women who take fertility pills increase their chances of having a baby. Some will have one; others will have multiples. Some women may not have success with fertility pills and will not get pregnant. If a woman takes fertility pills, then her chances of having three, four, five or six babies increases, but it is not something that is a definite possibility. Research show that women taking any type of fertility pill will probably have one, two or three babies. Only about 5% to 10% of all women on fertility pills have more than three babies in one pregnancy.

2. Pop a Bun in the Oven With a Pill

A fertility pill helps a woman who wants to get pregnant but is having problems doing so naturally. The purpose of the fertility pill is to stimulate ovulation and to produce an egg so that pregnancy can occur. There are several types of fertility drugs, and your doctor will prescribe the best ones for your unique situation. Fertility drugs may not work the same on all women.

3. Three Strikes and You're Out on Clomid

Clomid is one of the most commonly used fertility drugs on the market. Like other fertility pills, it helps stimulate ovulation. Once prescribed, the woman will take it and then have timed intercourse or insemination. A doctor will only prescribe Clomid up to three times before deciding to move to a stronger medication. Only after three unsuccessful tries will a fertility doctor decide to take another course of action.

4. Fertility Pills Aren't for Everyone

There are a few situations where people cannot take fertility pills. Any woman who is already pregnant or who just had a baby should not take fertility pills. Other situations to avoid fertility pills are with liver conditions, cancer or female diseases, and anyone with high blood pressure or drug or alcohol addictions. If a woman wants to take fertility pills, she should be in good health or have very few health problems. She should also be mentally stable and ready to have a baby. A woman may want to talk with a counselor before she decides to take fertility pills to make sure she is definitely ready to be a mom.

5. Watch Out!

When a woman takes fertility pills, she should know about some side effects. These side effects include breast tenderness, mood swings, hot flashes, headaches, dizziness, nausea and burred vision. They may be mild or strong. Regardless of how they feel, you should contact your doctor immediately.
