Knowing your credit score is the right of every American. The Federal Trade Commission has made it possible for you to receive a free yearly credit report from all three of the major reporting agencies: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. The FTC sponsored website, AnnualCreditReport.com, allows you to request and view your credit report online, per request over the phone or via mail for a paper copy of your report.

Online

Step 1

Visit the website AnnualCreditReport.com. Choose the state in which you currently reside from the drop-down menu, and click "Request Report."

Step 2

Enter your personal information, including your name, address and social security number. You can enter your social security number knowing that the website is encrypted and secure. Choose "continue" after verifying that all of your information is accurate.

Step 3

Choose how you'd like to view your report. Look at it on the website, ask to have it emailed to you or receive it via mail. You'll receive three reports, one from each of the different credit reporting agencies.

Via Phone

Step 1

Call the AnnualCreditReport.com customer service center at 1-877-322-8228.

Step 2

Give your name, number, address and social security number to the customer service agent. Let him know how you'd like to receive your three copies of your credit report: by email or regular mail.

Step 3

Allow two to three weeks delivery time to receive your credit reports.

Via Mail

Step 1

Click the "By Mail" link found on the first page of the AnnualCreditReport.com website to obtain the request form.

Step 2

Print the request form and fill it in with black or blue ink. Use capital letters only, and be accurate with your details. Fill in your name, address, phone number and social security number.

Step 3

Choose which credit report you'd like by shading in the boxes of either Experian, TransUnion or Equifax. You are entitled to one of each, so you can fill them all in if necessary.

Step 4

Fold the request and place in a #10 envelop, addressed to:
Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
