In her book "The Eat-Clean Diet," author Tosca Reno states that losing weight is 10 percent training, 10 percent genetic and 80 percent nutrition. Although genetics is a factor and working out is important, what you eat is even more important when it comes to weight loss. Changing the way you feel about your diet and movement can help you make healthier food choices and make adding exercise to your daily routine enjoyable.
Feel Good
Losing weight, for most, comes with a negative feeling attached. The thought of having to count calories, watch what one eats, and exercise brings on a feeling of dread, leaving most who attempt to lose weight defeated before they begin. In the June 2008 "Idea Fitness Journal" article "The Science of Willpower," author Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D., states that research supports the notion that willpower works like a muscle. According to McGonigal, willpower is a mind-body response; training yourself to feel good about the choices you want to make will help you achieve your diet and fitness goals.
Eat Clean
Cutting down on your daily caloric intake will undoubtedly help you shed excess pounds, but choosing foods with a higher nutrient value will help you benefit the most from the calories you do consume. What you eat is just as crucial as how much, according to author Tosca Reno, in her book "The Eat-Clean Diet." Reno suggests choosing clean proteins such as chicken, turkey, low-fat beef, tofu and fish, and complex carbohydrates like brown rice, whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. These clean foods rev up your metabolism, which helps your body shed more fat.
Move Your Body
Exercising daily does not have to be a chore, choose enjoyable activities that appeal to you. Dance, walk, hike, swim, march to your favorite T.V. show--just move your body for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. In the November 2009 issue of the "Idea Fitness Journal," Len Kravitz, Ph.D. states that adding exercise to a restricted calorie diet can increase weight loss up to 20 percent. Exercise will help you shed unwanted pounds faster, boost your energy level, help you sleep better and improve your mood.
