Building a precise and consistent golf swing takes a lot of time on the practice tee. Becoming an effective golfer is not about swinging the club hard or bashing the ball 300 yards. It is primarily about balance, timing and excellent form. However, golfers can do exercises to get stronger and improve their flexibility. These exercises can help the golfer improve their game and their swing.

Building Shoulder and Back Strength

Take a 15-pound dumbbell in each hand. Hold the dumbbells in front of your thighs so that your palms are facing each other. Slowly lift your hands until they are at shoulder level. Return them to the starting position. Do this 10 times, take a one-minute break and repeat the set. This will build strength in your shoulders and back.

Wrist Curls

Wrist strength is one of the most important factors for a golfer. Having wrist strength will allow you to hit the ball explosively and get extra distance. Wrist curls will help you build that strength. Take a 15-pound dumbbell in each hand and hold them at your sides. Curl your wrists until your can feel heavy pressure in your forearms. You are not lifting the weight up toward your shoulders; you are just curling your wrists. Return to the starting position. Do this 15 times, take a one-minute break and repeat the set.

Cardiovascular Fitness

Golfers have known for a long time that getting in better cardiovascular shape can help when walking 18 holes. Golfers can cover 3 1/2 to 5 miles during a full round, and walking 18 holes can be grueling. If you are not in good shape, the back nine can be difficult, especially the last three or four holes. Jogging for 20 to 30 minutes four times a week can help a golfer improve cardiovascular conditioning. This will help a golfer hold his form when swinging the club in the final part of his round of golf.
