Fast Ways to Get Rid of Cellulite

Cellulite is basically pockets of fat that develop under the surface of the skin. It's due to connective fibers pulling the skin down as the fat deposits push the skin up, according to the National Institutes of Health. This results in a dimpling appearance along skin. When cellulite develops, it's usually seen along the thighs, buttocks and hips. While there's no way to cure cellulite, according to the NIH, there are methods that may help to get rid of its appearance.

Exercise

The Mayo Clinic explains that exercise is one of the more beneficial methods for treating cellulite. Exercise coupled with a healthful diet can often cause weight loss, which may reduce signs of the dimpling along the skin. However, exercises strengthening and toning the muscles along areas with cellulite are the most constructive. To target these areas, stick with stair climbing, biking, swimming and weight training of the legs.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is also known to reduce cellulite, according to the Mayo Clinic. With this procedure, a hand-held device emits diode laser energy while deeply massaging the skin. This encourages collagen production, blood circulation, lymphatic drainage and better elasticity of the skin. All of these factors help to provide a smoother appearance to the legs, buttocks and hips. Results are instantaneous but temporary, lasting right around six months.

Radiofrequency Therapy

Radiofrequency therapy couples deep-tissue massage with radio waves and infrared light to reduce the appearance of cellulite. By combining the two energy sources with massage, the area experiences an increase in blood circulation, drainage of fat and better elasticity to the skin. Much like laser therapy, this provides a smoother appearance to the legs, buttocks and hips. Results are also instantaneous but temporary, lasting right around six months.

Mesotherapy

An alternative from of treatment, mesotherapy uses a cocktail of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and chemicals to reduce the appearance of cellulite. When this cocktail is injected into the pockets of fat, it actually breaks down the deposits. The number of sessions varies from person to person, since it takes three weeks to see how the body responds to treatment before subsequent injections are administered into the cellulite. The vitamins, minerals, enzymes and chemicals used in the cocktail are often different from office to office. Side effects include infections, rashes and bumpy skin, warns the Mayo Clinic.
