An itchy scalp can result from a number of conditions, including dandruff, contact or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, head lice and certain diseases, such as lupus and even stress. The Family Resource website notes that many factors can be controlled by switching to a milder or medicated shampoo (for dermatitis, dandruff and head lice), using topical creams, prescription drugs or light therapy (for psoriasis) and seeing your doctor to treat any underlying diseases. For milder cases of itchy scalp due to common dandruff, try a cost-effective home remedy suggested by the Natural Home Remedies website.

Step 1

Beat two eggs in a medium bowl.

Step 2

Add 2 tbsp. of water to the egg mixture.

Step 3

Wet your hair. Apply the egg mixture, making sure to massage it into the scalp with your fingertips. Leave the egg solution in your hair for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 4

Rinse your hair. Make sure to use lukewarm water, as hot water can dry your scalp and worsen the condition.
