Bowflex is a leading company for strength and fitness equipment. From the original Bowflex home gym, the company has expanded to provide several other types of fitness equipment with the Bowflex name. Each piece of Bowflex equipment provides versatility to your workout routine with commercial-grade quality equipment for your home.
Function
Each piece of Bowflex training equipment is designed to train the entire body. During each workout, you will elevate the heart rate as you burn fat and build muscle. The Bowflex has the versatility to provide a total-body workout.
Types
The traditional Bowflex Home Gym started the line of Bowflex training equipment. As of 2010, Bowflex offers six different models of the home gym, ranging from $649 to $2,999. To complement the home gym, Bowflex designed the SelectTech dumbbells. The dumbbells come in two models based on weight. One model has a range from 5 to 52.5 lbs., and the second model has a range from 10 to 90 lbs.
Features
The classic Bowflex home gym uses long plastic rods or wound rubber bands contained in a disc. The rods or bands provide resistance through a system of cables and pulleys attached to a hand grip. The resistance increases as you increase the number of rods or bands attached to the cables. Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells use an adjustable dial to change the weight in five-pound increments. The Bowflex TreadClimber uses two separate walking platforms for a cardiovascular workout.
Exercises
The original home gym was designed to perform total-body exercises, but the available exercises were greatly increased with the addition of the TreadClimber and SelectTech dumbbells. Possible leg exercises include leg curls, leg extensions, leg press, seated calf raises, lunges and squats. Exercises for the back include lat pulldowns, seated rows, bent over rows and straight arm pulldowns. Chest exercises can include the bench press, chest fly, incline bench press and decline bench press. Abdominal exercises include seated ab crunches, trunk rotations and seated oblique crunches. Shoulder and arm exercises include triceps pushdowns, biceps curls, triceps extensions, lateral raises and shrugs.
Benefits
Bowflex training has several benefits, with the equipment's versatility one of the biggest. You can perform a variety of exercises at different resistances in the comfort of your own home. Strength gains and fat loss can be achieved in as little as 30 minutes a day, three to five days per week.
