The brown spots on your legs are called age spots. The No. 1 cause of age spots is too much exposure to the sun. What causes age spots is a decrease in the amount of hormones your body produces. The hormones that control the melanin in your skin are key to keeping your skin healthy. If your legs are exposed to the skin for an extended period of time, your skin is much more likely to build up melanin. If melanin builds up in your skin cells, dark spots form on your legs. You can, however, remove the brown spots on your legs by taking vitamins, staying out of the sun and cleansing your skin.

Step 1

Avoid the sun. Staying out of the sun is the easiest way you can prevent brown spots on your legs, as well as fading the brown spots you currently have. However, if you have to be in the sun, make sure you wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, or cover your legs with pants or a blanket when in direct sunlight.

Step 2

Apply lemon juice to your legs. Lemon juice acts like a bleach that will gradually fade the brown spots on your legs. Dip a cotton ball into the juice and soak it up. Rub the juice over the dark spots on your legs, and leave the cotton ball on the spots for at least 10 minutes. Rinse.

Step 3

Exfoliate your skin. Buy a loofah at your local pharmacy, and rub over the dark spots on your legs with a good amount of pressure. When you rub your skin, you are removing the top layer of dead skin, the skin that contains the most amount of pigment that makes your dark spots dark. Every time you are in the shower or bath, rub the loofah directly over your dark spots for several minutes. Rinse.

Step 4

Apply buttermilk to your dark spots. Like lemon juice, buttermilk contains a natural bleach that will gradually fade the dark spots on your legs. Buttermilk increases how many cells your skin produces, which means your skin can regenerate faster and get rid of the spots' dark pigment faster. Dip a cotton ball into a bowl of buttermilk, and rub the cotton ball over your dark spots. Let the cotton ball sit on the dark spots for about 10 minutes. Rinse.
