Many women who are uncomfortable with the size of their breasts see few options aside from surgical breast enhancement. Coincidentally, many of these women are even more uncomfortable with the idea of undergoing surgery than they are with their current breast size. For women uncomfortable with plastic surgery, natural and non-invasive breast enhancement, like herbal supplements, massage and pectoral exercise, may be a better option to gradually enhance and lift the breasts.
How it Works
Enhancing the breasts without implants is usually a gradual process. If herbal supplements are used in a breast enhancement program, an increase in the body's production of estrogen and progesterone may occur. Phytoestrogens, also called plant estrogens, are rather mild compounds found in many herbs that can mimic the effect of estrogen in the body, which may result in water retention in the breasts.
Herbal Breast Enhancement
There are many herbs traditionally associated with breast enhancement including fenugreek, red clover, red raspberry, saw palmetto, hops and wild yam root. These herbs are rich in phytoestrogens, which may produce a noticeable enlargement in breasts.
Other Breast Enhancement Options
Herbal supplements aren't the only things that have been used, with varying degrees of success, to enhance the breasts without implants. Vacuum-pressure devices, such as Brava, claim to enlarge the breast tissue gradually. If performed regularly, acupressure and breast massage may also enhance the breasts by stimulating the release of certain hormones, such as prolactin.
Breast Enhancement Exercise
While exercise alone will not enlarge the breasts, strengthening the pectoral muscles can lift them. The pectoral muscles, or chest muscles, lie beneath the mammary tissues and provide support. As the pectoral muscles are developed through weight-bearing exercises, they will help create the illusion of fuller, firmer breasts and more defined cleavage.
Warnings
Despite their popularity, there is little research indicating the efficacy of herbal supplements in breast enhancement. Women who are nursing, pregnant, or intend to become pregnant should not take herbal supplements without first consulting their physician. Fenugreek is generally safe for nursing mothers, though. Stimulating the breast tissue through acupressure or massage can release the hormone prolactin which may result in lactation.
