People with celiac disease must avoid foods containing gluten, which is the protein of certain grains, including wheat, rye and barley, according to Jackson Siegelbaum Gastroenterology. Typical breakfast foods of toast, cereal and pastries usually contain these grains. When preparing a gluten-free breakfast, it is important to reduce the chance of contamination with gluten-containing products. Use a separate toaster for gluten-free bread, and do not use the same pan to heat up gluten-free foods after heating gluten-containing foods without thoroughly washing it first.

Gluten-Free Products

In many health food and grocery stores, you will be able to find flours, cereals, muffins and breads that are marked gluten-free. These can make healthful breakfasts, provided that they are low in sugar and sodium. Use gluten-free bread to make French toast or use gluten-free flour to mix up a batch of pancakes. Pair gluten-free grain products with low-fat or skim milk, and add a piece of fresh fruit to make it a complete breakfast.

Eggs

Eggs are gluten-free, though egg substitutes are not necessarily gluten-free. Make an omelet with eggs, cheese and fresh diced vegetables. Hard-boiled eggs make a good breakfast entree, and are quick if made ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Fry up some bacon to go with your eggs, but be careful if you want to use sausage. The Gluten Free Chef cautions that some brands of sausage contain gluten. Check the label carefully.

Smoothies

A smoothie makes a fast and easy breakfast. Use whatever type of fruit you like, along with milk, soy milk or almond milk, and some ice cubes. Substitute some of the milk with yogurt, but read the label carefully to make sure it is gluten-free. Pour all of the ingredients into your blender and enjoy. If you would prefer to eat rather than drink your breakfast, fruit, yogurt and milk or milk substitute make a good breakfast without being blended, as well.

Non-Breakfast-Food Breakfasts

Anything that is gluten-free and nutritious makes a good breakfast. Do not feel as though you must be constrained to traditional breakfast foods, suggests Free From Gluten. A sandwich made on gluten-free bread, last night's dinner leftovers or some homemade soup can give you an excellent start to your day.
