3 Ways to Avoid Kundalini Syndrome

1. Maintain a Clean Energy System

Kundalini is an ancient practice that combines yoga moves--similar to those seen in Hatha yoga--with meditation practices for the purpose of spiritual growth. It is said that Kundalini syndrome can occur in a person who is practicing Kundalini yoga but has not developed a clean energy system. There are a few different manifestations of Kundalini syndrome that can occur. In some people, their personality basically shuts down, and they are not able to function. The person might feel as though he is seeing himself from the outside, or he may feel all-powerful and godlike. Other people see amazing things that aren't really there. Some other people go into what is called a samadhic trance, which appears like a catatonic state. People in this type of trance are in ecstasy, but they are not able to function. No matter what form it takes, Kundalini syndrome can be scary and dangerous.

2. Combine Kundalini with Spirituality

Practice Kundalini yoga if you are on a spiritual path. The process of Kundalini redefines and reintegrates yourself, so it can leave you feeling fragmented if you are not combining it with spirituality. Therefore, if you try to keep doing things the same way you were doing them in the past and suppress what you have learned, you will experience problems. It is also helpful to communicate and connect with other people while practicing Kundalini yoga, so you get the support you need. Being flexible rather than rigid in your beliefs is also helpful in avoiding Kundalini syndrome.

3. Take It Slow

Heat will collect in your body as you practice Kundalini yoga. Go slow at first as your body adjusts. Don't become alarmed if you feel a tingling sensation in your spinal column, the soles of your feet or your palms. This is said to be the energy rising and circulating to your sleeping chakras. If you are relaxed the process will be easier. You might also feel negative thoughts or violent emotions during this process; again, just relax and allow these feelings to come. If you start experiencing Kundalini syndrome, temporarily stop meditating and resume slowly. Begin with basic Hatha yoga before going back to Kundalini yoga. You can purify the energy bodies with salt baths and a vegetarian diet. You may also want to see a pranic healer or Melchizedek Method facilitator to help you through the process.
