How to Naturally Get Rid of Whiteheads

Whiteheads can form on anyone's skin at any age. The most common places whiteheads form is on the nose, forehead, chin and cheeks. Whiteheads form when pores clog up with dirt and oil. When you don't properly wash your face, dead skin builds up in the pores, and you may eventually break out in whiteheads. Many over-the-counter products claim they can get rid of whiteheads, but there are also natural remedies you can try.

Step 1

Get lots of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps kill the bacteria and oil that build up in your pores and causes whiteheads. Vitamin C is stored in the liver, and the liver uses the vitamin C to break down toxins that cause whiteheads to form. Eat foods that contain vitamin C, such as oranges, which contain the most vitamin C of any fruit. You can also make a facemask with the orange. Take the peel of the orange, grate it into fine pieces, and mix vigorously with a few drops of water. Apply the mask onto your whiteheads and let dry. Let the mask sit on your face for at least 20 minutes before washing with warm water. You can also take vitamin C in a pill form. Doctors recommend taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C per day.

Step 2

Steam your skin. Steam can help naturally unclog your pores, releasing them of the dirt and dead skin that has built up and are the cause of your whiteheads. Boil hot water and pour into a large round bowl. Position your face directly over the bowl, placing a towel over your head and making sure it forms a tent-like shape between your head and the bowl. Let the steam soak into your face for about five minutes. According to the Mayo Clinic, you should stay away from facial scrubs and astringents as they can irritate your skin and make your blackheads worse.

Step 3

Use aloe vera. Aloe vera works to eliminate the dead, oily skin cells that clog your pores and cause your whiteheads. Aloe vera is made up of enzymes that reduce the inflammation in your whiteheads. You can get the aloe vera directly from the aloe vera plant. Break off a leaf and squeeze the juice into your hands. Rub into your skin and leave on for at least 20 minutes, and then wash with warm water. If you don't have the plant, most drug stores carry aloe vera products. Make sure you get an aloe vera product that has a high content of aloe vera, as some claim to be aloe vera, but only contain one or two percent.
