4 Ways to Treat Fungal Infections

1. Bust the Sugar

Although your doctor might not prescribe food as a way to treat fungal infections, you can certainly cut certain foods out of your diet and include others to help get rid of the yeast and fungal invaders. Although it may seem impossible, take out all the sugary snacks. This has a great benefit to you and a great detriment to the yeast. The sugar burdens your immune system, thus enabling those yeast and fungus to keep on the attack, and all the while they are snacking on the extra sugar in your bloodstream. Refined sugar is the worst, found in candy, cookies, cakes, pies and the like. Cut other forms of sugar as well, like maple and corn syrup, and even eliminate honey if you want faster relief.

2. Spice Up Your Life

To successfully treat fungal infections with diet, you'll need more than just eliminating sugar. Some experts say cutting wheat and dairy out of your diet and adding things like apple cider vinegar and garlic help make the yeast and fungus uncomfortable. Including garlic and apple cider vinegar in your meals is easy when you do the cooking yourself. Simply crush a little garlic over your main meal and include a dash of apple cider vinegar on your salad. For more intensive therapy, you might want to consult your naturopath or dietician, but some say including up to six cloves of garlic a day in your diet helps your immune system fight off the invaders. In fact, the University of New Mexico did a study that reveled that garlic was an effective tool for fighting off the Cryptococcus neoformans fungus in both the test tube and in animals.

3. Talk to Your Doctor

The traditional way to treat fungal infections is to take an anti-fungal medicine. In 50 percent of cases of nail fungus, however, this treatment doesn't work. The next step is removing your whole nail. In cases of jock itch and other skin fungal and yeast infections, doctors prescribe topical anti-fungals, which initially are quite effective. Unfortunately, re-occurring infections are common.

4. Give Immunity a Boost

If you do not correct the underlying immune system problem, you will undoubtedly get another infection. You need to boost your immune system by eating healthy, getting proper rest and exercising. While it might seem unconnected, especially to things like foot fungus, your immune system needs the tools to do its job. Your body makes these tools from your food, implements them while you sleep and delivers them faster when you exercise. Eat your spinach, which is full of vitamins and chlorophyll, and eat other immune boosters, like carrots, leafy greens and other colorful veggies to get the most benefit. After a week or two getting these great nutrients, you won't miss your frozen processed pizza sticks at all.
