4 Ways to Do Disco Dancing

1. The California Hustle

One of the most popular ways of disco dancing is the California Hustle. Sometimes, this dance is referred to as the bus stop. The type of disco dancing uses 16 basic steps and some clapping. It is one of the easiest disco dances and looks great to any upbeat music. To do this dance, begin by taking three steps backwards and clap. Then take three steps forward and clap. Make sure you are putting rhythm into your steps by shaking your hips a little while you step. Next, take three steps to the right side and clap, then take three more steps to the left side and clap. Repeat the steps as many times as you would like.

2. Free Style Disco Dancing

This particular dance does not have a particular way to do it. The dancer simply listens to and feels the music then dances in any way that fits the music. It is called free style because the dancer is free to move anyway he wishes to move. There is no right or wrong way to do free style disco dancing. This is also a great way to dance if you have never disco danced. Simply move to the beat of the music.

3. The John Travolta Disco Dance

The hit movie, "Saturday Night Live" made disco dancing more popular than ever. In this movie, John Travolta had a very unique way of dancing that took disco dancers by storm. Soon, many people were disco dancing like John Travolta. To do this fun dance step, stand with your feet apart and while you are shaking your hips, use your finer to point up, then use the same finger to point to the opposite foot. Repeat these steps as often as you like, but be sure to keep to the beat of the disco music.

4. Other Popular Dances

Other popular disco dances include the four corners, the bump and line dancing. The four corners is a basic step where the dancer will create a four corner square with his feet. You simply step forward with the right foot then the left foot. Then you step back with the left foot then the right foot while moving your arms and shaking your hips. With the bump, you simply stand beside another person and you bump hips with them. Line dancing became very popular during the disco era of the 1970s. Line dancing is where a group of people form a line and do the same dance moves. There were several line dances that emerged during the 1970s such as the hustle line dance and the two step line dance.
