Natural Ways to Get Rid of Nicotine Addiction

Certain phrases told to the patient can be used later on to prevent smoking when nicotine cravings emerge. Hypnotherapy is as effective as behavioral counseling, according to a study by the San Francisco VA Medical Center and the University of California-San Francisco. The results were published in the May 2008 issue of Nicotine & Tobacco Research. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of the tips of needles at various points on the body to restore the flow of energy, and prevent cravings or irritability from the withdrawal symptoms that ex-smokers face. Acupuncture also helps with relaxation and the detoxification of nicotine from the body, according to Acufinder.com. Patients wear press needles or pellets to apply pressure to reduce cravings in between sessions. Some people go through several sessions. Like other alternative techniques, acupuncture works for some people, but not for others. It usually requires the patient to use other supportive approaches, such as herbs and a healthy diet, along with acupuncture to combat nicotine addiction.

Changing Habits

Plan ahead when you decide to quit smoking by getting rid of cigarettes, ashtrays and lighters in the home, at work, and in your car, the National Women's Health Information Center advises. Keep smokers out of your home and avoid them in other places. Urges can develop because smokers are used to having something in their mouths. Replace cigarettes with natural substitutes such as sugar-free hard candy or gum, cinnamon sticks, toothpicks or straws. Always keep these items handy. Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, which can increase smoking urges. Some smokers enjoy having a cigarette with a cup of coffee. Change to a substitute drink, such as tea, or practice having coffee without a cigarette before you quit.
