Weight Watchers is a popular weight loss program founded in the 1960s by Jean Nidetch after several failed attempts at losing weight and keeping it off. The basic idea behind the Weight Watchers Flex plan is that every food item is assigned a certain "point" value based on its fat content, caloric density and fiber content. In addition, each Weight Watchers member is allotted a certain daily point allowance based on his/her weight loss goals. Members must monitor their food intake and figure out the number of consumed daily points without exceeding their allowance in order to lose weight.

Italian Turkey Burgers

Italian burgers made with lean ground turkey and served on reduced-calorie hamburger buns with tomatoes, onions and basil each count as one serving. One serving is worth five Weight Watchers points.

Baked Chicken

Baked chicken calls for a combination of fresh herbs and lemon juice with skinless, boneless chicken breasts. Each 3-ounce serving of this baked chicken recipe is worth three Weight Watchers points.

Sauteed Shrimp

Shrimp is lightly sauteed with lemon juice and a combination of herbs. Each 4-ounce serving of this sauteed shrimp recipe is worth three Weight Watchers points.

Other Items

According to the Weight Watchers Flex Plan, one whole wheat English muffin is worth two points. On the other hand, 1 cup of mixed berries is worth one point. One slice of thin crust pizza with veggie toppings is worth six points, whereas 2 cups of tossed green salad is worth zero points.

Visit the Weight Watchers official website to find the point values of additional foods. You can also calculate the point values yourself by checking food labels and applying this formula:
p = (c/50) + (f/12) - (r/5); where p = number of points, c = calories, f = fat grams
and r = fiber grams.
