Improving your body's metabolism with the right nutrition can help you burn fat more easily. According to dietitian Joanne Larsen MS RD LD, adding the right nutrients to your diet helps to boost oxygen transport for improved energy and metabolism levels. This helps your body burn calories more efficiently instead of storing fat on the abdomen and other areas. Essential vitamins, herbs, supplements and certain foods can speed up your body's ability to burn fat.

Drink Green Tea

A medical study published in "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition," states that green tea helps burn stored fat in the body by increasing metabolism. This was originally thought to be due to the caffeine content of tea, but it the study found that the fat-burning substances in green tea are polyphenols called catechins. Green tea contains a catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), that increases fat-burning, especially in the belly area.

Get More Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is important in boosting the body's metabolism to burn more fat. According to the National Institutes of Health, Vitamin B12 is essential for energy production because it is necessary for the body to produce red blood cells (erythrocytes) that carry oxygen for metabolism and other reactions. The body requires oxygen to burn fat. Add foods that are rich in Vitamin B12 to your diet to increase energy and metabolism. Vitamin B12 is found in poultry, fish, meats, eggs, fortified cereal, milk and dairy products.

Drink Orange Juice

Vitamin C is another essential vitamin that helps to increase fat-burning in the body. According to a study conducted at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Vitamin C may help to boost resting metabolic rates, particularly in elderly adults. This is due to its powerful antioxidant effects that help improve the nervous control of metabolism. Good sources of Vitamin C include orange juice, citrus fruits and leafy green vegetables.

Eat Nuts

Almonds and other nuts are packed with Vitamin E, another potent antioxidant that increases fat burning in the body. According to registered dietitian Joanne Larsen MS RD LD, Vitamin E helps to remove wastes from the body and makes metabolism more efficient at burning fat to produce energy. Eat a handful of nuts every day to improve fat-burning.

Ginseng Supplements

A popular herbal supplement to boost metabolism, ginseng contains a substance called saponin which facilitates fat-burning in the body. According to research published in the journal "Pharmacological Research," ginseng's ability to boost metabolism may also be caused by it's effect on blood circulation in the body. Ginseng improves heart health and blood circulation for more efficient oxygen transport and increased energy production in the body.
