In order to develop the ability to hit the golf ball consistently, you need to develop a routine every time you hit the ball from the tee or fairway. Getting the best golf swings means knowing what you are doing when you address the ball. It is not guesswork. It requires having the confidence and coordination to hit the ball correctly time after time.
Practice Swing
When you know how to swing the club, your practice swing will focus or sharpen what you have to do prior to hitting the ball. You do not have to take two or more practice swings. One should do. As soon as you take that practice swing, your head will be aligned and your focus will be on the ball. Adjust your feet to get comfortable.
Envision Your Results
Before you swing the club in earnest, envision what you want the results of your shot to be. If it's a shot on the green, picture the ball hitting the green and rolling to a soft stop. If it's a long drive off the tee, picture it coming to rest in the middle of the fairway. Close your eyes if you have to.
Hit the Ball
Your work on your swing should come on the practice tee. When you are hitting from the tee or the fairway, you should not be thinking about all the details of your swing. Instead, you should just swing the club because you need to know what to do and your instincts should be developed. Your backswing begins with drawing the club back, turning your hips and getting to the firing position. Bring your hands down and through the ball, turn your hips the opposite direction and finish with your hands high.
