If you are looking for a new fitness routine, consider trying boot camp fitness training. Fitness boot camps are designed to be fun, challenging and entertaining while increasing your overall fitness. The boot camp fitness training workouts utilize a group setting outside of the gym to put a new twist on fitness and to achieve strength and weight loss goals.

Types

Boot camp fitness training is available in many different forms, such as adventure boot camps, women-only boot camps or military-style boot camps. Adventure boot camps take place outside and utilize fun workouts, such as obstacle courses. Women-only boot camps are designed with female fitness goals in mind, such as weight loss and toned arms and legs. Military-style boot camps are based from military training and utilize training concepts found in the Army or Marines.

Trainers

In a boot camp training program, a fitness trainer(s) assists with exercises to keep you motivated. The trainer utilizes the group atmosphere to create friendly competition in new workouts. With a trainer present, beginners or avid fitness enthusiasts can see benefits from the training. The trainers will coach you through new exercises and scale the workout to your fitness level.

Features

Most boot camps last between four and six weeks with four to five workouts per week. Each workout typically takes 45 to 60 minutes with a warm-up included. For example, Fit Boot offers a six-week boot camp with workouts every weekday lasting 45 minutes. SWAT Boot Camp, on the other hand, offers a four-week boot camp. Boot camps are performed outside in the rain, mud, grass or heat. Prices vary based on duration of the boot camp and geographic location. Typical price ranges for first-time boot campers are between $300 and $400 per four- or six-week session. After the initial session, month-to-month prices are typically between $60 and $80 per month. Price discounts may be offered for law enforcement, military, fire fighters or students.

Exercises

With workouts taking place outside, the number of exercises performed during a boot camp is endless. Most boot camps will utilize a mixture of calisthenics (jumping jacks), body-weight exercises (push-ups) and short-distance running. Other exercises can include tire flips, kettlebell swings, pull-ups, squats, running hills or other "combat" related drills.

Benefits

Common benefits found in boot camp fitness training include increased strength and flexibility, decreased body fat and improved overall health. With a fitness instructor present during the boot camp, you can also obtain basic nutritional counseling. The group atmosphere and friendly competition builds motivation and self-confidence.
