While nearly everyone experiences anxiety occasionally, when it happens often or most of the time, it may be a mental illness. There are a few variations of anxiety illnesses that include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and separation anxiety, the Mayo Clinic reports. In the case of GAD, it is a continual form of anxiety that may interfere with your normal life. There are medications as well as psychotherapy to help you cope with anxiety.

Obsessing

If you are suffering from anxiety, you may find yourself constantly obsessing and worrying about virtually anything, from small to large problems. Obsessing about things that are not that important can be a hard habit to break. It does not really matter if you realize you should not be worrying so much about something, because you will continue to obsess about it. Usually, this obsessing will be about many things, large and small.

Concentration Problems

Anxiety also can make it difficult to focus on what you are doing, whether it is work, reading---even watching television. This is because you typically will be anxious about some other aspect of your life. For example, if you are obsessing about how to pay your bills, you may find yourself drifting off and not focusing on work. The Mayo Clinic reports that these concentration difficulties also may manifest in feeling as if your brain is going blank.

Restlessness

Feeling anxious a good deal of the time can make you feel on edge. It can make you feel as if you need to be doing something, even if you are not certain what that is. Restlessness may cause you difficulty when you are trying to sit still or relax because of this need to move.

Irritability

When you are worried most of the time, it is easy to get irritable. You may be so worried and so focused on that worry that you snap at other people. This may occur because, unconsciously, you cannot understand why someone would bother you when you are focused on something you think is of the utmost importance.
