Weakened urethral muscles, coughing and excessive urine production all contribute to urinary incontinence in men and women. Women are more susceptible to this condition because of childbirth and menopause. Herbal remedies may help rebuild the urethral muscle walls and help keep urine output in normal range. Herbs taken in conjunction with Kegel exercises may eliminate incontinence in most men and women.
Step 1
Brew green tea by placing one green tea leaf in a cup of boiled water. Let it steep for several minutes and then remove the leaf. You may sweeten the tea with honey for added flavor. Green tea is a natural antiseptic that helps heal inflammation and remove harmful bacteria that can contribute to urinary incontinence through infection of the urinary tract.
Step 2
Take 200 to 300 mg of St John's Wort three times daily to promote hormone production. Estrogen decline weakens bladder muscles that hold urine. St. John's Wort promotes increased hormone production, helping to stimulate blood flow to the bladder muscle and strengthen it to stop urine leakage.
Step 3
Soak marshmallow root in a cup of cold water for several hours. Strain the water and drink all of it. Make sure that it is cold when you drink it because heat will destroy its healing properties. Marshmallow root soothes discomfort in the bladder while helping fight off bacteria and germs that promote stress incontinence.
Step 4
Take 160 mg of saw palmetto two times daily if you are a man suffering from prostate-induced incontinence. Saw palmetto decreases inflammation and pressure on the prostate, which causes urine leakage.
