Acne is a common condition, and it can vary in intensity--from the occasional blackhead to cystic lesions. In any case, many people visit the drugstore looking for a solution or go to the dermatologist's office expecting a quick fix. Although these treatment options work, they can be expensive and also can be harsh on the skin and your body. Home remedies can be just as effective when used properly, and they are inexpensive and much gentler on the skin. You must use home remedies consistently for positive results.
Daily Cleansing
Keeping your skin clean is the first rule for getting rid of back acne. Throughout the day, you might sweat, have irritation from your clothing or introduce bacteria to your skin by touching your back. Counteract this contamination by washing your skin twice a day with warm water and a mild cleanser. Use a non-drying soap to remove dirt, oil and bacteria. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel so you don't irritate any existing blemishes.
Clean Bedding
Clean bedding, including sheets, blankets, comforters, pillowcases and duvet covers, goes a long way to getting rid of back acne. Wash your bedding at least once a week to remove dead skin cells, bacteria and oil. Lying on dirty sheets night after night can make back acne worse.
Regular Shampooing
Wash your hair every day to prevent oils from getting onto your back. Oil from your hair can lead to more breakouts on your back and even your face. If daily shampooing dries your scalp too much, consider pulling your hair up off your back to prevent contamination. Avoid hair products such as gel and hair spray, which can get on your back and clog your pores.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil can be an effective way to get rid of back acne at home. In fact, you can use this natural oil directly on your acne lesions--just make sure you dilute it with water. Applying tea tree oil to your acne twice a day for several weeks is as effective as using 5-percent benzoyl peroxide creams, according to the Mayo Clinic. Discontinue use if irritation develops.
