How to Troubleshoot a ProForm 400X Treadmill

The Proform 400X treadmill is a portable model that includes three sets of hand weights to add strength training to your cardio workouts. Additional features of the treadmill include adjustable digital speed, variable incline, thumb sensor, digital display and 250 pound capacity. If you experience a problem with the Proform 400X treadmill, perform some basic troubleshooting at home before contacting the manufacturer for assistance. If you need to call the manufacturer, locate the serial number for your machine on the base of the model to give them for reference.

Step 1

Examine the outlet you are using for the treadmill. If the machine does not power on, it could be that you are not using a surge suppressor and the surge suppressor is not plugged into a grounded outlet.

Step 2

Reset the circuit breaker of the Proform 400X treadmill. If you lose power during a workout, check the circuit breaker. It is located next to the power cord and has tripped if it protrudes out of the base. To reset, wait at least five minutes and then depress the button.

Step 3

Remove the safety key from the console of the treadmill. Any power issues may be resolved by removing and then reinserting the safety key.

Step 4

Change the tension in the treadmill's walking belt. Unplug the machine and remove the safety key. If the belt is too tight or too loose, you can adjust it by turning the rear rollers with an Allen wrench. Turn counterclockwise ¼ of a turn to loosen or ¼ of a turn clockwise to tighten. To check for adequate tension, lift the edge of the belt. It should measure approximately two to three inches away from the platform.

Step 5

Center the walking belt. If the walking belt is off center to the left, turn the left rear roller bolt ½ turn clockwise with an Allen wrench. If it is off center to the right, turn the left rear roller bolt ½ turn counterclockwise.
