Lacrosse is a game that consists of nonstop action as players run up and down the field in an attempt to score goals. Keeping score in lacrosse requires great attention to detail. You will have to keep track of players in the lineup, goals, assists, penalties and saves by the goaltenders. Keeping the statistics of the game will help coaches and players understand what happened in the game and why.
Step 1
Get the starting lineups from each team and enter them in the scorebook on a line-by-line basis. Write down the names of the nonstarters underneath the starters. As the game proceeds, backup players will take the place of starters and you must mark the time they come into the game.
Step 2
Record the goal scorers and those who assist on goals as the game proceeds. You must get the time the goal was scored, the player who scored the goal and the player who made the pass that led to the goal.
Step 3
Write down the penalties that are called by the referee, the players who were singled out for the violation and the time the penalties occur. The referee will come to the scoring table and make a signal on the penalty, so you must understand the signals for tripping, high-sticking and slashing so you write down the correct penalty and the time the penalty occurred. Refer to the rulebook when the referee gives the signal for the penalty.
Step 4
Keep track of the saves as they occur during the course of the game. Next to the goalie's name is a spot for saves as they occur. Each time the goalie blocks a shot, mark off a save on the chart. At the end of the game you will know exactly how many saves the goalie has made.
