If you're feeling tired or bothered by a general sense of malaise, the culprit may be too much of an organism called Candida albicans in your intestines, which is sometimes called yeast syndrome or chronic candidiasis. People suffering from conditions such as fatigue, constipation, headaches and difficulty concentrating have tried a special "candida cleanse" diet to try to stop the growth of too much of this type of yeast in their intestines. Despite the fact that some alternative medicine practitioners prescribe candida cleanses, however, Mayo Clinic internist Dr. Brent A. Bauer says that conventional doctors doubt their validity because of the lack of evidence that candida cleanses are effective. DoctorFungus.org states that there is no "rigorous data" to support whether or not the symptoms are caused by an overgrowth of Candida albicans yeast. Bauer cautions that no clinical trials document whether or not a candida cleanse diet can effectively treat any medical condition. People suffering from the symptoms associated with candida overgrowth should have other potential causes evaluated by a physician.

Physical Symptoms

Many physical symptoms are sometimes associated with an overgrowth of Candida albicans, according to DoctorFungus.org. Fatigue and headaches are two of them, the website says, and others include gastrointestinal problems such as heartburn, bloating, diarrhea and constipation; and respiratory problems like rhinitis, sneezing and wheezing. Women with too much Candida albicans in their bodies may experience vaginal itching, burning or abnormal vaginal discharge, according to DoctorFungus.org, and they may also experience menstrual irregularities and severe premenstrual tension.

Mental Symptoms

People who have too much of the Candida albicans yeast in their intestines may also suffer from mental symptoms, according to DoctorFungus.org, and those include memory problems and difficulty concentrating.

Emotional Symptoms

An abnormally high amount of Candida albicans in people's intestines has also been associated with emotional symptoms such as anxiety, depression and irritability, according to DoctorFungus.org.
