1. Places to Find Black Mold
Black mold develops in places that water leaks. Leaky pipes and plumbing, flooding, high humidity and leaky roofs tend to be purveyors of black mold. Damp basements and over zealous humidifying allow black mold to grow, also. Additional water and moisture to any environment is a breeding ground for black mold. Excessive house plants, condensing water on pipes, unvented dryers, damp rags, loose bathroom tiles and blocked gutters create the perfect environment for the growth of black mold.
2. Signs that Signal Black Mold
If you find drywall tape that pulls away from the wall, suspect black mold. Other indicators of black mold are cracked and peeling paint, a musty or moldy smell, yellowing walls or even green or black walls or ceilings, warping wood and an increase in allergic reactions. Investigate all of these signs because your family health is dependent upon it.
3. Dangers of Black Mold
Toxic levels of black mold lead to several physical problems. Headaches and the inability to concentrate can occur. Your attention span decreases after continuous exposure. Frequently, you'll experience unexplained dizziness from massive exposure to black mold. Each person has a different tolerance level to black mold. Just like reactions to bee stings vary, so do the reactions to mold. If someone in the household shows signs of arthritis and aching, has bloody noses, bronchitis, fatigue, hearing or memory loss, depression or restlessness, loss of sight, itchy skin, sinus congestion or even loss if equilibrium, check your home for black mold.
4. Clean Up Black Mold
Since moisture is necessary for the growth of black mold it is imperative that you dry the area where the mold grows. You need to disinfect the area with bleach. Use a cup of bleach for every gallon of water to create the disinfectant. Put the mixture on the area and saturate it for 15 to 20 minutes. Thoroughly dry the area that you just cleaned. If there is black mold in the drywall, simply replace the drywall.
5. Carefully Clean Black Mold
Be careful when you clean the molded areas. Black mold is very dangerous. Once the mold dries, the spores become the hazard. Don't scrape at the area with dried mold since it releases the spores and makes inhalation possible. Always use protective eyewear and a respiratory mask when you work with black mold. To be on the safe side, wear clothing that protects your skin. If the area is too large, you may want to call specialists to clean the area.
