According to the Kids Health website funded by the Nemours Foundation, the most-common types of warts on the face are flat warts and filiform warts. Flat warts have flat tops and may have a yellow, brown or pink color. Filiform warts are flesh colored and have a finger shape. Avoid touching any warts on your face since this can spread the infection. Since the face is a sensitive area, speak to your doctor before using any products to treat facial warts.

Step 1

Leave the warts alone. As long as the warts are not causing any pain or irritation, you can wait for them to clear up on their own. If they don't clear up within several weeks, you may want to look at your treatment options.

Step 2

Receive a prescription for tretinoin cream. According to the Merck Manual Professional, this can help promote peeling on the face and remove warts. Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A and found in name brand products, such as Retin-A.

Step 3

Use another prescription cream if the tretinoin cream is unsuccessful. Your doctor may recommend applying benzoyl peroxide or imiquimod in conjunction with the tretinoin. These drugs irritate the wart as a way to get rid of it.

Step 4

Inquire about more aggressive methods to remove facial warts through your doctor. If you have a stubborn wart on the face, he may consider surgical excision, laser therapy or cryotherapy. During surgical excision, the wart is surgically cut off of the face. Concentrated light destroys the wart if laser therapy is selected as a treatment option. For cryotherapy, liquid nitrogen freezes off the wart.

Tips and Warnings

  • Salicylic acid is available over the counter and used to destroy warts at home. After examining the wart, your doctor may determine that this is an acceptable treatment option.
  • Don't shave the face while treating warts around the facial area. This can irritate the affected skin and increase your chances of developing multiple warts.
