Many weight loss plans offer the convenience of prepackaged foods, professional advice and online tools for dieting. Convenience comes at a price. Some dieters are not informed about inexpensive herbal remedies for weight loss. These remedies are easy to use at home because they come in liquid or pill form, including a simple tea beverage.
Evening Primrose
Evening Primrose is an herbal weight loss remedy for home use that is available in health food stores in oil, capsule or powder form. The recommended dosage is one capsule of Evening Primrose oil once a day. Evening Primrose stimulates the metabolism, which helps you burn more calories and thus lose weight. Most people tolerate the oil from this plant with no side effects but taking too much Evening Primrose can cause nausea, an upset stomach and a headache. An alternative to the oil is making an herbal tea from the dried leaves of the Evening Primrose plant and drinking it once a day.
Green Tea
A study from the University of Geneva in Switzerland demonstrates that you can lose about 2.5 pounds per month by combining green tea with a regular exercise routine, for example, 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise and 10 minutes of strength training exercise three times each week. The study recommends taking an herbal supplement with 50mg of caffeine and 90mg of the active ingredient in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) three times per day before meals. Green tea supplements are available for home use at health food stores in capsule or tablet form.
According to the study, caffeine interacts with green tea to make a hormone called noradrenalin, which boosts the metabolism and suppresses the appetite. An alternative to taking an herbal supplement is drinking two to three cups of green tea each day. Green tea is safe for most people in moderation if they are not using other medicines or herbal supplements.
Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe Vera is a cactus plant with high water content, about 99 to 99.5 percent, and vitamins, minerals, enzymes, sugars and other compounds in the remaining solids. The yellow juice of Aloe Vera comes from the small tubular parts of the plant leaves. Aloe Vera juice has a bitter taste. It helps with weight loss by stimulating the metabolism. The recommended dosage for home use is two to four ounces per day. It also helps with digestion, detoxification and colon cleansing. The juice is available in health food stores as a liquid or as a powder.
