If you have redness on your face, it could be caused by sunburn or rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic condition that results in redness and small bumps on the surface of the skin. There are topical treatments, such as tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid that can be recommended to clear up redness caused by rosacea. In the meantime, you can conceal redness on the face with certain makeup tips.
Step 1
Test products on your arm first. Before using any products to cover redness, use a small amount on your arm to notice if your skin reacts to it.
Step 2
Apply a green tinted primer. According to the National Rosacea Society, green tinted bases have the ability to even out skin tones and hide redness.
Step 3
Cover red spots with a concealer. The color of the concealer should be one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Place a small dab of the concealer over the red sections on the face. Blend the makeup into the skin with your fingertips.
Step 4
Use an oil free foundation. Choose a shade that is the same as your natural skin tone. Apply the foundation with a brush and smooth the liquid over your face. Start application around your cheeks and blend in an outward direction. Blend well for a natural look that hides facial redness.
Step 5
Finish your look with a yellow based powder. The yellow of the powder further conceals the redness on the face. Dust the powder in an even layer over the entire face.
Tips and Warnings
- Remember to wear sunscreen if you are suffering from redness on the face. Sun exposure may exacerbate the condition.
- Avoid makeup and skin care products with ingredients that can further irritate the skin. Some examples include alcohol, witch hazel, acetone, phenol and added fragrances. Avoid red lipstick if you are trying to conceal facial blushing since this can draw attention to your skin condition.
