Dandruff is a condition that causes scaling and flaking on the scalp. Although it does not typically signify a serious problem, it can be embarrassing. Although you can treat the condition with over-the-counter dandruff shampoos,, holistic options can be used as an alternative. In the meantime, shampoo more often and cut back on styling products to keep dandruff from worsening.

Step 1

Heat 1 cup virgin olive oil until it is warm to the touch. Massage the olive oil into the scalp. Leave the olive oil in place for 20 minutes. Olive oil should only be used to treat dandruff twice a week.

Step 2

Brush the hair vigorously with a natural-bristle hairbrush. This loosens the scales. Shampoo and rinse the hair after brushing to get rid of the olive oil and the dandruff flakes.

Step 3

Boil a cup of water with 2 tbsps. thyme for 10 minutes. Strain the water and thyme mixture.

Step 4

As you wait for the thyme rinse to cool, wash your hair with your normal shampoo.

Step 5

Pour half the thyme rinse over your hair after you have finished shampooing. Massage the rinse gently into your scalp. Do not rinse it out after application and allow your hair to air dry naturally. This will naturally condition your scalp, the Mother Nature website advises.

Tips and Warnings
