Wrinkles occur when skin loses elasticity and has less collagen production, resulting in a lack of firmness. Wrinkles are especially noticeable around the eyes, mouth and neck. Aging is a main cause of wrinkles because skin becomes thin and dry over time, but genetics, sun exposure and smoking can cause wrinkles as well. Wrinkle creams and cosmetic treatments can be expensive, but it is possible to reduce wrinkles using home remedies and lifestyle changes. Results vary according to the depth of wrinkles.

Lifestyle Remedies

Protecting skin from the sun will not only prevent future wrinkles, but it can improve skin's current appearance. In addition to wearing sunscreen, avoid going outside during the middle of the day when ultraviolet rays are strongest. Wear protective items such as sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats. Quit smoking as soon as possible to allow skin to appear healthier. A diet rich in B vitamins can also improve the appearance of skin and help get rid of wrinkles. B vitamins can be found in eggs, chicken and whole grains.

Sleeping Changes and Massages

Repeatedly sleeping in the same position can cause wrinkles because skin is continually pressed against pillows and sheets. A change in sleeping position can give skin a chance to become smooth. Getting enough sleep at night can help as well, because puffiness and dark circles that appear under eyes as a result of fatigue can make eye wrinkles more pronounced. Massaging areas with wrinkles can increase blood circulation and tighten up muscles and tissues. Massage skin in an upward motion to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Skin Care

Special skin care can help to get rid of wrinkles. Using a moisturizer every morning and evening keeps skin hydrated, which masks small and fine wrinkles. Kitchen items can be used to reduce wrinkles as well. Apply an egg white to your face and allow it to dry, and then rinse it off. This will tighten skin and make it firm. You can also apply a mask of mashed apples to your skin for twenty minutes, which allows the vitamins to seep into skin. Pineapple juice can also be rubbed onto fine wrinkles to tighten up the area.
