Burning fat cells is a natural process that your body does every day. It involves many complex chemical reactions, including transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of your cells. There, fatty acids transform into ATP, or adenosine tri-phosphate, the body's source of energy. You can influence the amount of fat cells your body burns by the way your exercise, the foods you eat and the natural supplements you include in your weight loss program.

Step 1

Decrease your carbohydrate intake to cause the body to rely on fat for energy, which burns more adipose tissue or fat cells. Keep in mind, though, that the low-carb diets that became so popular in the last few decades may cut carbohydrates too low, according to "Xtreme Lean" authors Jonathan Lawson and Steve Holman. They recommend a moderate carbohydrate intake. Rather than the 30 to 50 g of carbs a day recommended by ketogenic, or low-carb diets, they suggest 150 to 200 g, depending on your individual body. Experiment with different intakes to see what works best for you.

Step 2

Graze or eat more frequently to burn fat cells. This method works because it speeds up your metabolic rate, according to "The Abs Diet." Rather than the traditional three large meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), try taking in less food at each of these meals and having a snack in between each of them. The author David Zinczenko recommends six smaller meals daily.

Step 3

Take CLA, or conjugated linoleic acid, and MCT oil, also known as medium-chain triglycerides, to burn more fat cells. According to "Homemade Supplement Secrets," these fats have a thermogenic (fat burning) effect on the body. It seems that with more fatty acids available for energy in the bloodstream, the body uses its own fat cells more readily, burning more fat.

Step 4

Take a green tea extract supplement, containing 300 mg EGCG, to burn more fat cells. Green tea contains a polyphenol antioxidant known as EGCG, which increases metabolic rate, according to "Homemade Supplement Secrets." In addition, green tea also inhibits the breakdown of norepinephrine, prolonging its activity in the body. Norepinephrine acts to release fatty acids from storage for use as energy, according to "The Fat Burning Bible."

Step 5

Do resistance training, which burns fat cells in several different ways. Fat cells burn as fuel while you work out, but the body also uses more of them for energy for up to 48 hours following your workout. In addition, this training increases production of powerful fat-burning hormones such as HGH (human growth hormone), according to "The Abs Diet." Lastly, training against resistance builds lean muscle, which acts as a furnace, burning more fat cells even at rest.

Step 6

Do "super cardio" to burn fat cells directly. "Combat the Fat" author Jeff Anderson recommends low to moderate intensity cardio immediately after doing resistance training exercise. Having burned all of your body's glycogen (stored carbohydrate fuel) during a weights workout, you will burn more fat cells.

Things You'll Need

  • MCT oil
  • CLA
  • Green tea extract (standardized to 300 mg EGCG)
