Homeopathic Remedies for Food Poisoning

Food poisoning is an illness that generally needs to run its course. However, several homeopathic remedies for food poisoning can treat the symptoms, such as nausea and diarrhea. Though homeopathic remedies can be effective, it's also very important to monitor your symptoms. If food poisoning lasts for more than 24 hours or you feel extremely weak and violently ill, go to a hospital. You may require intravenous fluids and medication to recover fully.

Warm drinks and compresses generally relieve symptoms for a short time. For best results, take one 6C or 12C tablet of arsenicum album every two to three hours until the worst of your symptoms subside.

Veratrum Album

Veratrum album is made from the white hellebore plant. This treatment is particularly effective when botulism or bad meat is the source of your poisoning. It can be help symptoms including violent retching, vomiting, diarrhea and cold, damp skin. Cramping and cravings for cold water, ice and fruit juice are also common signs of this type of food poisoning. Take a 6C or 12C tablet of veratrum album every two to three hours until the symptoms cease.

Carbo Vegetabilis

Carbo vegetabilis is a homeopathic remedy that's derived from charcoal and treats symptoms related to ingesting bad meat, spoiled dairy products and rancid fats. Key symptoms of this type of food poisoning include belching and a severely distended belly coupled with weakness, sweatiness and exhaustion. Take a 6C or 12C tablet every two to three hours to cut down on the uncomfortable gas that causes the bulk of the symptoms.

Nux Vomica

Nux vomica is made from the seeds and bark of the Strychnos evergreen tree. If you suspect your food poisoning symptoms are related to simple overindulgence, then use this homeopathic remedy. Nux vomica relieves symptoms, such as gas, a sore abdomen, vomiting, pressure and dry heaves. The discomfort that accompanies this type of food poisoning is usually temporarily relieved by a bowel movement, but returns shortly afterwards. Nux vomica is available in many different forms, including liquid drops, tablets and tinctures. The dosing instructions vary, so make sure to follow the directions on the packaging.
