1. Types of Vegetarians
The definition of an ovo-vegetarian is a vegetarian who does not eat meat or any dairy product, but does consume eggs. A lacto-ovo vegetarian is someone who does not eat any type of meat, but does eat dairy and eggs. A person who avoids all meat, cheese and dairy is known as a vegan. There are many different reasons why a person may choice one type of vegetarian over another. Many ovo-vegetarians may be lactose intolerant or have a milk allergy. Many ovo-vegetarians who are vegetarians for ethical reasons avoid eating any fertilized eggs, including caviar. They do not believe in any torture or killing of animals.

Reasons to go vegetarian are varied. Some go vegetarian because they believe it is a more humane way to live and eat. They believe the way that animals are raised for market is cruel. Some research has indicated that vegetarians in general have stronger immune systems. This keeps them healthier day to day.

The most common type of vegetarianism involves not consuming meat, but eating dairy and egg. The ovo-vegetarian may choose not to consume dairy products because of lactose intolerance. This is a common problem in our society. Another reason may be that studies show there are health factors from consuming dairy. Milk is not recommended for children under one year. Others believe it is unnatural for humans to consume cow's milk. Cows are given antibiotics and growth hormones that are reflected in not only their meat, but in their milk as well.
5. Nutritional Concerns
Ovo-vegetarians need to make sure they are getting certain nutrients. As with any vegetarian, they have to find alternate sources of calcium. Alternate sources can be as simple as those dark leafy greens. Vegetarians, even ovo-vegetarians, need to be concerned with their B12 intake. This is a nutrient also found in leafy green vegetables. Many ovo-vegetarians take B-12 supplements.
