The 3-Day Diet is a type of eating plan used to achieve weight loss quickly. Due to the extreme nature of the diet, it is not likely to be recommended by your doctor. Since it is low in calories and requires a strict eating plan, it should never be followed longer than three days.
Function
According to the Diet Channel website, the aim of the diet is to create a certain metabolic reaction to boost the metabolism and burn fat at a higher rate than normal. However, it is not likely a chemical reaction causing the quick weight loss that the dieters experience, but rather from dramatically decreasing their caloric intake.
Effects
The makers of the 3-Day Diet claim that you can lose as much as 10 lbs. in three days when following the eating recommendations. The diet limits the number of carbohydrates you are consuming over the course of the day. The majority of the weight loss will be likely from water weight since carbohydrates can cause water retention.
Prevention/Solution
A sample Day 1 menu consists of breakfast is made up of black coffee, half grapefruit and a slice of toast with peanut butter. For lunch, a half cup of tuna is served on a slice of toast with tea or water. Your dinner will include 3 oz. meat, 1 cup carrots, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup ice cream, 1 apple and tea or water. Day 2 and Day 3 include similar types of food in similar quantities.
Considerations
The Every Diet website states that you can use several substitutions during the 3-Day Diet. An orange can be consumed instead of a grapefruit, frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, beets instead of carrots and cottage cheese instead of tuna.
Warning
The 3-Day Diet is not likely to cause long-term and sustained weight loss. You are most likely to gain back all the weight that you lost once you return to your normal eating habits. A doctor should be consulted for better weight loss plans, such as a gradual reduction of your daily caloric intake.
