When beginning a detoxification program, the first few days of the cleansing process can make you feel dizzy, weak or sick. Because of this, it is usually recommended that you stay home while doing a detox. Detoxes are performed for a variety of reasons such as kick starting a diet, improving digestion or simply to purge toxins from the body. Home remedies are generally less expensive than commercial cleanses and typically consist of natural ingredients. It is important to note that these diets are not safe for frequent or regular use and you should consult a physician before starting any type of detox program.

Cabbage Soup

Cabbage soup detoxification is more commonly known as the "Cabbage Soup Diet". According to Cabbage-Soup-Diet.com, this form of detox is for those who wish to get a head start on weight loss. The soup is made from cabbage, onions, celery, green peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and carrots. Along with water, you can consume as much soup as you would like for seven days, but nothing else.

Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse is also known as the "Lemonade Diet" and the "Lemonade Cleanse". For this cleanse, you will drink an herbal laxative tea each evening and perform a saltwater flush the next morning. A saltwater flush consists of drinking warm water that has been mixed with sea salt. Finally, you consume between 8 and 12 glasses of lemonade each day. The lemonade is made from fresh lemons, organic maple syrup, cayenne pepper and distilled water. This process is repeated for 10 to 14 days. According to the Raw Food Site, the purpose of the Master Cleanse is to remove toxins from the body and cleanse the entire digestive tract.

Juicing

Drinking a combination of freshly juiced vegetables and fruits can aid in flushing heavy metals and impurities from your system. Fruits and vegetables that work well for this detox include carrots, blueberries, spinach, grapefruit, wheat grass and grapes.

Coffee Enema

A coffee enema is recommended to provide relief when you have been feeling sluggish, and it also cleanses the liver. When performing a coffee enema, it is important to use only organic coffee because commercial coffee contains artificial additives.

Fruit Fasting

Doing a fast where your diet consists primarily of one type of fruit allows the the body to purge preservatives, fats and other unhealthy elements. One example of a fruit fasting is the "Cleansing Apple Fast". While doing this fast, the only nutrients that you would consume are apple juice, organic apples and water. A fast lasts for three days before you gradually begin to reintroduce other foods back into the diet.
