The generically named medicine meloxicam is available in 7.5-milligram tablets or 15mg tablets. It is sold with the brand name Mobic in the United States. It is a prescription-level medication classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID. Physicians typically prescribe the higher dose of 15mg for patients suffering from symptoms such as pain in the joints, stiffness, swelling and inflammation from various forms of arthritis. These illnesses include rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, the Mayo Clinic reports. There are no reported serious common side effects of this drug.

Insomnia

Taking Meloxicam in the 15mg dose can produce a side effect that disrupts sleep patterns. Insomnia, or the inability to sleep, may be caused by this medicine for the person using it. She also may have lesser versions of sleep problems such as restive sleep, meaning it may not be easy for her to either stay asleep or go to sleep. Despite this side effect's annoying nature, it is only a nonserious side effect of the drug, Drugs.com reports. She should be able to sleep normally again a few days after starting treatment for arthritis with Meloxicam. She should, however, tell her doctor if the insomnia continues.

Upset Stomach

NSAIDs in general, and Meloxicam 15mg in particular, can cause a disruption of normal stomach functions. The person taking the medicine may find he has an upset stomach or that he feels nauseous. This typically is mild and does not generally lead to vomiting with this medicine. He also may have excessive gas in his digestive system. This can produce belching or flatulence. The disruption also may induce such sensations as indigestion and heartburn. He also may experience a day or two of diarrhea or constipation and abdominal cramps, the Mayo Clinic reports. These nonserious and quite common side effects of Meloxicam 15mg also should pass in a few days to a week. His doctor should be informed, however, if the stomach upset is severe or continues longer than the normal period, Drugs.com recommends.

Dizziness and Headaches

Many medicines, including Meloxicam 15mg, can induce side effects that affect the person's head. She may be dizzy, feeling a sensation of whirling, which can make her feel unsteady and unbalanced when she moves. She also may get headaches from the medication. These problems generally disappear within a few days but may require medical aid if they are severe.
