Fitness balls--commonly referred to as a stability ball--are a piece of exercise equipment constructed of elastic soft PVC filled with air and ranging from 35 to 85 cm in diameter. Workout enthusiasts use fitness balls for different exercises, including core, upper-body and lower-body. A number of workout videos are available that use a fitness ball, but the best videos incorporate total body training into the workout.
"A.S.A.P. Abdominals, Spine, and Posture"
Keli Roberts, fitness trainer and 2003 IDEA International Instructor of the Year, is known for producing total body workout videos that challenge any fitness level. According to "Fitness" magazine, Keli's time saver workout titled "A.S.A.P. Abdominals, Spine, and Posture," provides a total body workout while focusing on your back, balance, core and legs. The workout can be fit into a busy schedule because it takes about 30 minutes but has the capability to help you lose weight by burning about 140 calories per workout.
"Trim & Toned in 20"
"Trim and Toned in 20," developed by Tonya Larson, incorporates three separate fitness ball workouts--abs, core and stretch, upper body and lower body--into one video series. On each video, Tonya leads you through an easy-to-follow, high-energy workout. She incorporates intervals on the fitness ball to maximize variety and muscle toning. Tonya adds aerobic components to the workout that don't use the fitness ball to complement the fitness ball exercises. Light dumbbells weighing 2 to 5 lbs. are also recommended.
"Best Bun & Leg Shapers"
Denise Austin has released several fitness videos, but "Best Bun & Leg Shapers" is one of her best because it combines her best routines into one video. In the video, there are seven workouts lasting between five and 10 minutes that provide a total body workout with a specific focus on the glutes and legs. Denise leads you through each workout that combines squats, lunges, Pilates, crunches, curls and core routines. Five of the workouts utilize the fitness ball while the other workouts require additional equipment such as light dumbbells, resistance bands and an exercise mat.
"Preggi Bellies"
"Preggi Bellies" is a fitness ball video designed by physiotherapists for pregnant women. The videos provide a fun total-body workout that is safe during any stage of pregnancy. By utilizing the fitness ball, you can perform cardio and strength workouts while minimizing the impact on your body. For example, cardio workouts increase your heart rate by bouncing on the ball and moving your arms and legs.
