Sun damage increases skin cancer risk and can cause discoloration of the skin. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists can minimize skin damage by using chemicals and lasers. However, herbal remedies, though not thoroughly evaluated by the FDA, can be used to treat sun damaged skin in order to reduce the symptoms and clear the skin.

Step 1

Apply green or black tea to the skin daily. These teas are natural antioxidants and fight free radicals within the skin, decreasing sun damage. Brew the tea in boiling water and apply to the skin with a cotton ball once it is cool.

Step 2

Massage the skin with aloe vera gel. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, aloe vera gel is a natural antioxidant that is used to treat an array of skin ailments, including sunburn and long-term sun damage. Aloe vera gel may be used as many as six times daily.

Step 3

Moisturize the skin with grape seed or coral extracts. This will help repair skin cell damage by providing oxygen to the affected areas. Oxygen speeds up the healing process, and moisture promotes skin cell growth and collagen fiber production.

Step 4

Take a daily supplement of milk thistle. Milk thistle may prevent skin tumor growth and boost immune function while helping to heal sun damage from the inside out, according the the Bastyr Center for Natural Health.
