3 Ways to Do Men's Waltz Steps

1. Watching and Learn to Count the Waltz Before Beginning to Dance

The men's waltz steps are the basics of waltzing step sequences. It's a good idea to watch someone doing the waltz before you actually start dancing for the first time. Practice the movements of the waltz in front of a mirror if possible. Learning the timing on the counts first can actually help men get started on applying the dance movements. The counts will go as one, two, three and one, two, three or they may want to be counted as one, two, three, and four, five, six. The basic waltz steps are very similar to those of the forward progressive waltz steps. The difference is in how you apply the progressive movements.

2. You Can Do the Waltz, Let's Get Started

The man will be the lead partner in dancing the waltz, so he needs to keep that in mind as he learns the steps. Let's get started by having the man step out forward on his left foot (count one), step out forward on the right foot leaving about two feet in between (count two). Pull that left foot into the right foot (count three). Step out on the right foot this time (count one, again), step out front and side with the left foot (count two, again) and pull in the right foot to close to the left foot (count three again). That's it, now it's time to practice with your partner.

3. Up, Up, Down Leads to Adding Romance Into Your Waltz

Dancing the waltz should be gentle, flowing and romantic. It takes practice for men to develop the ease of gliding from one dance step of the waltz to the next. Practice your waltz dancing movements enough that you learn to relax while doing them. You want to feel the music and enjoy holding your partner and guiding her around the ballroom floor while you dance the waltz together. The rise and flow, or the up, up, down movements of the waltz, will come as you gain confidence in the steps, but basically, when you step out, go up on the balls of your feet and down on the slide to close steps. Keep practicing and you'll soon be able to sweep that woman off her feet with your ever so romantic ease in dancing the waltz.
