The process of growing longer hair can be less difficult and take much less time by following a few tips. Getting frequent trims, using a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week, and avoiding the use of heated styling appliances can help hair to become healthier and grow faster.
Get Frequent Trims
Keeping hair trimmed and getting haircuts on a regular basis will help to remove split ends and any existing damaged hair. According to MarieClaire.com, getting frequent trims is the only surefire way to grow hair and to help it become healthier. Split ends cannot be repaired. They continue up the hair shaft until the hair eventually breaks off, creating a frizzy, uneven and unhealthy appearance. Getting a trim every six to eight weeks will help prevent split ends from appearing and will help hair to grow more quickly because any damaged or dry ends will not have a chance to break off.
Deep Condition
Moisturized hair is healthier hair, and using a deep conditioning treatment once a week will help keep hair in top shape. The nutrients in the treatment will penetrate the hair shaft, leaving it stronger and less susceptible to breakage and damage. Especially if your hair is already dry or damaged from chemical processing or coloring, it is vital to condition your hair each time after washing it and then deep conditioning it weekly. In her book, "Grow Hair Fast," Riquette Hofstein points out that the cells in the cuticle of the hair shaft can be chemically stimulated to be raised, which allows for the absorption of moisture. Many ingredients that most people already have in their kitchen can be used as a hair moisturizer, such as mayonnaise or a mashed avocado. Leave any deep conditioner on your hair for at least 20 minutes to allow for full absorption of the nutrients. Conditioned, moisturized hair grows faster because it is healthier and stronger.
Avoid Heated Appliances
It is crucial to avoid heated styling appliances during the growing out period, and even afterward, if you want to keep your hair healthy. Heated styling appliance such as flat or straightening irons, blow dryers, heated curlers and curling irons can all cause serious damage, breakage and split ends. Hofstein recommends allowing hair to dry naturally whenever possible. If a hair dryer must be used, use it on the lowest setting possible. Heated appliances can also cause overstimulation of the sebaceous glands, causing the scalp and hair to be too oily.
