Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory agent native to Australia, but available everywhere, including most drugstores and health food stores. It is an effective natural product with many uses, including helping to clear acne, treat burns and athlete's foot, and treat the common cold and flu. It is also very beneficial as a natural hair care product to clarify the hair and treat oily scalp problems.

Clarifying

Tea tree oil's antiseptic properties help remove build up on the hair shaft that can be the result of product usage or minerals from the water in your home. Some formulations are sold in drugstores or health food stores, but you can also apply a few drops of tea tree oil directly to the scalp once or twice a week to clarify the hair. Massage in from the scalp to the ends of the hair and then rinse out.

Normalizing

Tea tree oil has the ability to normalize oily and dry hair, improving the pH balance and adding moisture or taking it away where necessary. The well known natural beauty products brand JASON makes a tea tree scalp normalizing shampoo and conditioner, which it says "gently, effectively eliminates excessive dead cells and dandruff to gradually normalize the scalp." You can also apply a few drops of tea tree oil to the scalp daily and massage in to get the same benefits.

Hair Growth

Although tea tree oil cannot help new hair grow, its antiseptic properties help unclog blocked hair follicles so that hair that was previously inhibited can grow again. Massaging the scalp daily with tea tree oil can also help increase circulation at the scalp surface, which stimulates hair follicles and hair growth. The tea tree oil will also remove dead skin cells and other impurities that may be inhibiting healthy hair growth.
