More commonly known as multivitamins, lipoflavonoids are commonly taken by many people every day for the treatment of various minor diseases, disorders and for the promotion of overall good health, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Naturopathic medicine promotes a holistic approach to health with minimal use of surgeries and drugs. Please make sure to consult your physician before attempting naturopathic remedies at home. While the number of adverse effects experienced by supplement users have been lowered significantly over the years due to continued research into proper dosages and composition, there are still a few minor side effects that you should be aware of prior to consuming any multivitamins.
Allergic Reactions
As with any new medication or herbal supplement introduced to the body, you should be aware of the possible allergic reactions that may occur after initially taking multivitamins. According to the Mayo Clinic, one of the most serious adverse reactions you can experience is an allergic reaction that causes swelling of the throat, eyes or breathing pathways. Other signs of a possible allergy to a specific lipoflavonoid include difficulty breathing, rash, itching, swelling of the mucus membranes and hives. Should you experience these reactions, immediate medical assistance is strongly recommended.
Stomach Irritation
Other less-serious side effects that can be common following the consumption of a multivitamin include minor stomach irritations. According to Mayo Clinic, these minor stomach side effects include diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, black stools and possible stomach cramping. While rare, more serious stomach issues can include increased ulcer bleeding if you have already been diagnosed with the disorder. Taking lipoflavonoids, along with food or shortly after a meal, should help minimize the prevalence of these side effects in most supplement users.
Other Minor Side Effects
While most people are able to take a multivitamin without experiencing any side effects, other minor symptoms associated with prolonged use of a lipoflavonoid can be fairly common. According to the UMMC, more common and fairly minor adverse effects include staining of the teeth, fatigue, headache, metallic taste in the mouth and staining of urine. While none of these side effects present with any additional major health concerns, you should speak to your doctor if any symptom becomes problematic. You should also be advised that taking a multivitamin, along with other prescribed medications, could increase the likelihood of experiencing side effects due to possible drug interactions.
