1. The Waltz Forward Progressive Step, Let's Begin
The male is considered to be the lead partner in doing the waltz forward progressive step. He will start the movement by stepping out forward on his left foot. Next he's going to step forward and slightly out to the right with his right foot, making his feet about two feet apart. The next movement has the lead partner pulling or sliding his left foot to land beside his right foot. So, the dance counts so far are, count one, step forward left, Count two step forward out right and count three, slide the left foot to close next to the right. Move backward on the dance floor by stepping back on the right foot. Now, bring the left foot straight back to land about two feet apart from the right foot. This time, slide or pull the right foot in to stand next to the left foot. The counts for these steps are, count four, step backward on the right foot; on count five, step back on the left and count six, pull the right foot into beside the left foot. You've completed a one full progression and you just keep doing this repeatedly, moving forward with each combination of progressive waltz movements.
2. Ladies are the Following Partner in the Waltz
The couple preparing to dance the waltz forward progressive step starts by facing each other. His right hand is on her waist and her left hand is on his shoulder. His left hand and her right hand are joined together, outstretched to his left. The following partner or the lady will follow the lead of the male partner. Where he steps out on the left, she steps back on the right as she is facing him. This takes some practice and maybe some stepping on some toes to get the movements and timing down correctly.
3. Perfect Your Waltz Forward Progressive Step
The waltz forward progressive step is a beautiful dance when executed and danced technically correct. Part of the elegance of dancing the waltz is how the dancing couple holds themselves during the dance steps and how they keep their feet very close together without tripping or stepping on one another. Both dancing partners need to get into the beat and flow of the music, to feel the music and let the music lead them in their up and down movements in completing their progressive forward waltz steps in sequence.
