The Schwinn SRB-1500 is a heavy-duty recumbent exercise bike designed primarily for commercial fitness centers. Like other recumbent bikes, the Schwinn SRB-1500 provides a gentle cardio workout for users with knee or back injuries. These bikes can be expected to last for many years with proper care, which includes troubleshooting minor problems so the bike can be used as intended.
Leveling and Stability
Step 1
Check the stabilizing bar, which is located along the ground at the rear of the bike. Make sure this bar is resting flat against the floor, and that no debris or other items are between the bar and the floor. Remove debris or other items that you see so the bar can sit firmly on the floor.
Step 2
Tighten the nuts along the top of the stabilizing bar using a wrench. These nuts hold the stabilizing bar to the bike frame, and should be snug and secure. If one of these nuts is missing, contact Schwinn for a replacement.
Step 3
Examine the rubber end caps along both sides of the stabilizing bar. If one of these caps is missing or damaged, contact Schwinn to find an appropriate replacement. These caps slide on and off by hand, and require no glue or fasteners.
Troubleshooting the Display Unit
Step 1
Loosen the screws that hold the display unit in place using a screwdriver. Set these screws aside for reuse. Open the battery compartment on the back of the display and remove the batteries. Replace these batteries with four new "C" batteries, then put the cover back on and test the display unit to see if your problem has been resolved.
Step 2
Check the connector at the base of the control panel. This connector has a simple plug-in mechanism, similar to a phone cord. Remove the connector and ensure the ribbons on the cable are facing the slots on the connector. Turn the connector over if needed and reinsert it. Switch the display on to check if your problem has been resolved.
Step 3
Examine the cable along its entire length. Start at the base of the display panel and proceed down the length of the cable to where it terminates under the bike. Look for any signs of damage. If you find a damaged section, contact Schwinn for assistance.
Heart Rate Monitor
Step 1
Look for cables running out of the bike handles where the heart rate monitor sensors are located. Check that these cables are securely connected to the handles, and reconnect the cables using the plug devices as needed.
Step 2
Follow these cables down under the seat of the bike and check the connections there. If either of the connectors is loose, reconnect them as needed. If either the connectors or the cable itself is damaged, it will need to be replaced by a qualified Schwinn repairman.
Step 3
Test your heart rate monitor to see if the problem has been resolved. If it's still not operating correctly, contact Schwinn for further assistance or replacement.
Tips and Warnings
- If you're having trouble adjusting the seat, lubricate the slider track with Schwinn Silicon lubricant (Product #72016). Apply this lubricant with a rag and wipe away any excess before using the bike.
