3 Ways to Use Motocross Protective Gear

1. Invest in the Best

You should not skimp when it comes to buying the best protective gear. Your helmet should be lightweight and meet the Snell foundation rating controls. You should get a new helmet and not take a chance with a used one that may have some hidden stress cracks Make sure that the strap closes snugly, yet comfortably. If your equipment get in the way of your riding and trying new tricks, then you may be tempted to leave it off and put yourself at risk. Take your helmet with you when you buy your goggles to try them on. They should sit close enough on your face that dirt and rocks can't fly under them as you are speeding around the track. Get a kidney brace to wear between your pants and shirt. This gear is also good protection for your lower back. A chest plate will protect your ribs and breastbone. The lightweight plastic guard can be high enough so that it won't interfere with your movements on the bike.

2. Extreme Extremities

Get a good pair of leather gloves with padding on the knuckles that will save your skin when you slide sideways around a turn. They often have the fingers cut out to give you more access to the controls that you need to reach quickly when racing. If you get full-fingered gloves, make sure they are snug, but not restrictive. You should be able to easily make a fist with the gloves on. Boots are an important piece of the Motocross protective gear. Riders often need to use their feet to make difficult turns while speeding along a track. Falls and flips are often deflected with the feet. Motocross boots can also be cool to wear off the track. Your boots should be supple and comfortable from the first time you try them on. Don't try to break in Motocross boots. You need to have them on whenever you ride. Good Motocross boots include their own style of shock absorbers. They come with stress relievers under the sole and around the ankle buckles, and up the calves.

3. Cool Clothes for Protection

Just like a scuba diver wears a wetsuit, Motocross riders should wear shirts and pants that are specially made for their sport. Motocross clothing has padding built into the linings of the lightweight jerseys and pants. It's all about maneuverability, weight and aerodynamics. They are made of rip-resistant polyester and stretch to from to the rider's body. Padding usually covers the shoulders, knees and elbows, the areas most likely to get hurt in Motocross. The clothing comes in all kinds of bright and extreme colors and designs, fitting the culture of the sport.
