Dandruff and hair loss can be embarrassing. It was once a myth that dandruff does not cause hair loss. According to Medical News Today, people with dandruff do have hair loss because most people with dandruff continually scratch their scalps. This causes damage to the hair follicles and weakens hair, which then is susceptible to breaking and falling out.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can be used as a pre-wash treatment to help with dandruff. The acidic nature of the vinegar kills the fungus that causes dandruff. Let the apple cider vinegar sit on the scalp for an hour before washingr. For excessive dandruff, add one of these herbs to the vinegar: herbs burdock root, goosegrass, plantain, stinging nettle or southernwood.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice can be used to treat dandruff. The juice acts as an anti-bacterial agent as well as a cleansing agent. The juice will cleanse the scalp and provide anti-bacterial protection. Squeeze one lemon into a glass of warm water. Use the lemon peels, and massage them onto the scalp. Pour the lemon/water mixture into the hair, then rinse. This can be done once a week to help with dandruff.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can treat dandruff by drawing dead skin cells and excess oils from the scalp. However, it will not strip the scalp of its natural oils. Using baking soda will allow for a healthier scalp and healthier hair. Apply the baking soda to wet hair. Rinse the baking soda from the hair after 2 or 3 minutes.
